In the future, we must still be bird watching.

To design a bird watching hide is inherently an optimistic act. Placing an object in this almost untouched landscape to observe birds in their natural habitat commits us to a future where this remains possible. The typology and the specific context do not open easily to alternative functions. Yet in the face of climate change, we must reassure ourselves that this leisure activity will endure and that Icelandic birds will prevail. This uncertainty must be met with optimism.

Our design approach recalls the confidence in progress of the industrial age. The three hides derive their forms from typologies of extraction, while utilising a language of futuristic design: aluminium sheet facades, a material produced in Iceland, offer soft reflections of the surrounding landscape.

We aim for an architecture rooted in contemporaneity, one that acknowledges the discomfort of this moment yet still insists:
in the future, we must still be bird watching.
